Semester public transport pass

The semester public transport pass enables the students of the Augsburg universities to use all lines of the public transit in the city of Augsburg and the surrounding areas within the tariff zones 10 and 20 as often as they like during the whole semester (a student rate surcharge applies on the night buses). The following means of transportation may be used: AVV-Bus, VGA-Bus, Tram, DB (German Railway) - 2nd class. Students who live outside this area need to apply for a Public Transit Student Customer Card (Kundenkarte des Ausbildungsverkehrs) and buy a stamp for the appropriate zones at AVV (Augsburg Public Transit Association).

The Semester public transport pass costs 48,40 € for six months. This amount is to be paid together with the Studentenwerk fee and the Administration fee upon enrollment the university or when the students register for the next semester at one of the Augsburg universities.

This convenient deal is only possible because all students have to pay the fee. Guest students and physically disabled students who cannot walk and are entitled to use public transportation free of charge (they have to be in possession of an official disability certificate with the appropriate zone stamp) are exempted from the fee.

The semester public transport pass is valid from the beginning to the end of the particular semester. For students of the University of Augsburg, the semester pass is valid from April 1st to September 30th in the summer semester and from October 1st to March 31st in the winter semester. For students of the University of Applied Sciences, the semester pass is valid from March 15th to September 30th in the summer semester and from October 1st to March 14th in the winter semester.

Students use their student card with a special printing on it together with a picture ID card as a transit pass. In case of a loss of the student card, the student can apply for a new one at the Student Affairs Office.

Note: If you intend to go to a different university, you should sign off at the end of the semester because, according to the contract with the Public Transit Association and the Bavarian Studentenwerk fee regulation, it is not possible to reimburse the semester public transportation fee and the Studentenwerk fee when the next semester has started.
